Do you need a licence for an electric scooter in India?

It depends on the scooter, not on the fact that it is electric. In India the answer turns on two numbers: motor power and top speed.

The rule in one line

Under current Indian rules, a battery scooter with a motor rated within 250 W and a top speed within 25 km/h does not need a driving licence or registration. A scooter above either figure is treated as a motor vehicle, so it needs both.

Which ROMAI models are within the limit

Shark, Mini, Shark 2.0, Hawk, Champion and Zonda each have a 250 W motor and a 25 km/h speed limit. Each model page states this only where both figures are confirmed.

For Falcon, Luckystar and Classic, ask your showroom to confirm the figures before you decide.

What still applies

Wear a helmet and follow local road rules. The exemption is about paperwork, not about how the road treats you.

Check before you buy

Rules can change, and a scooter should match what its paperwork says. Ask the showroom to show you the motor rating and speed limit for the exact scooter you are buying. If you are unsure, your local transport office has the final word.
