How to read an electric scooter spec sheet

A spec sheet is easier than it looks. These are the lines that matter most, using figures from the ROMAI range.

Volts and amp hours

A battery is usually written like 60V / 32Ah. Volts describe the electrical pressure of the system. Amp hours describe how much charge it holds.

Watt hours

Multiply the two and you get watt hours, the fairest measure of how much energy the battery stores. Shark is 60V / 32Ah, which comes to 1920 Wh. When you compare two scooters, compare watt hours rather than volts alone.

Motor watts

Motor power is written in watts. It also decides how the law treats the scooter: 250 W is the limit for riding without a licence, together with the 25 km/h speed limit.

Load capacity

This is the most weight the scooter is rated to carry, including the rider. ROMAI models with a recorded figure run from 100 kg to 150 kg. If you often carry a passenger or goods, check this line first.

Brakes

Combined braking links the front and rear brakes, so one lever applies both. Shark 2.0 has discs front and rear. Mini, Hawk, Champion and Zonda have a front disc and a rear drum with combined braking.

What a figure leaves out

If a spec sheet leaves a figure blank, ask rather than assume. We leave a figure out when it has not been confirmed.
